Old Maine heirloom, grown exclusively by the Boothby family of Livermore Maine for five or more generations; collected from them by my parents who met them on a camping trip and told them of my interest. Ivory-coloured fruits with large seed cavity, which is usually considered a flaw but in this case add a great deal to the sweet flavour; relatively slow to harden seeds. In extreme heat and drought it is prone to bacterial wilt, but a new disease-res. strain has been developed by Cornell (called??).
